A majority Liberal Government will ensure the Burnie community finally gets an Aquatics Centre that will provide year round learn-to-swim facilities, and create much needed local jobs in the process.
Based upon the recent Devonport Aquatics Centre project, it is expect that around 120 jobs will be created during the construction phase.
In government, the Liberals will provide the final $3 million needed to make the expansion of the Burnie pool facility a reality.
The $8 million Burnie pool project will include a new indoor 25 metre learn-to-swim pool which can be used by schools, swimming clubs and surf life-saving clubs year round. It will also allow for the refurbishment of the existing 50 metre pool.
The Liberals commitment matches the $3 million secured from the Federal Government by Braddon MP Brett Whiteley, and will secure $2 million set aside by the Burnie Council.
The Burnie community and residents in surrounding areas such as Wynyard, Somerset and Penguin have been pushing for a facility of this nature for over a decade.
The revamped Aquatics Centre will be an asset for the Burnie community for a long time, and we are proud to play our part in delivering it, and much needed jobs for the Burnie community.
The Liberals’ commitment to the Burnie pool will come from the $500 million in savings we have already identified.
– Liberal Leader Will Hodgman MP.
